Florida woman jailed for DUI after hit-and-run crashes
A Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida, woman was arrested for driving under the influence after being involved in a string of multi-county hit-and-run crashes. She drove an SUV from Northeast Florida into Southeast Georgia with two children as passengers.
Georgia State Patrol arrested Brandy Stroud Gleaton, 33, soon after she hit a deputy patrol’s car during a traffic stop on Interstate 95 in Georgia. Gleaton is facing three DUI charges. She was charged with driving under the influence of drugs, a seat belt violation and endangering a child under 14 years of age.
The Florida Highway Patrol estimated up to eight vehicles in Florida and two more in Georgia were involved in the chain of hit-and-run collisions. Authorities from both states are investigating the reasons behind the crashes.
Because Florida’s DUI laws are strict and complex, they have the potential to negatively impact a person’s life. For example, in this case if the woman has children, her relationship with them could be affected. Unlike many other offenses, DUI charges carry minimum mandatory punishments.
With so much at stake, it is important to seek the guidance of an experienced DUI attorney who is skilled at fighting DUI charges and understands how to protect the accused’s rights.
